Bandits kill one, abduct nine in Kaduna community

Suspected bandits have killed a resident and abducted nine others in Babban Saura (PW) community in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The attack occurred in the early hours of Thursday when the gunmen invaded three houses in the community.

A source in the community said the attackers first stormed the residence of an elderly man and abducted two of his children.

They then proceeded to the home of a man identified as Sikiru, where they broke through the fence to gain entry.

According to the source, Sikiru attempted to resist the assailants when they entered his parlour and engaged them in a struggle, but was shot dead.

The bandits thereafter abducted his wife and two children.

The gunmen also invaded a neighbouring house and abducted a woman, identified as Maman Mubarak, and her four children.

The commander of the local vigilantes, Usman Adamu, who confirmed the incident, said nine persons were initially abducted.

Adamu said vigilantes received a distress call and alerted soldiers who joined them to pursue the attackers.

“We traced them to the Eastern Bypass area and succeeded in rescuing a woman, Maman Mubarak, whose four children were among those kidnapped,” he said.

He said efforts to rescue the remaining eight victims failed as the bandits escaped with them.

Another resident, Anas, said Sikiru had called him shortly after the attackers stormed the community.

The incident comes days after bandits invaded nearby Kadaure community, where a man was killed and cows rustled.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Kaduna State Command, DSP Mansur Hassan, could not be reached for reaction as at press time.
