Bandits strike again in Kaduna, abduct 61 residents

Gunmen believed to be bandits have attacked a community in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, where they abducted 61 people.

The Kajuru abduction is coming few days after 287 schoolchildren were kidnapped in Kuriga, in neighbouring Chikun Local Government Area of the state.

The gunmen attacked Buda on Monday, residents informed BBC Hausa. But there is no statement on the incident from the authorities.

However, residents said the gunmen stormed the community around 11:30 pm shooting sporadically.

“Noone knows the exact number of the bandits who abducted 61 people,” one of tbe residents said, adding that six of his relatives were among those abducted.

“We have confirmed that 32 women and 29 men are now with the gunmen. They also abducted a nursing mother who gave birth four days ago, but they left the baby,” he added.

He said the arrival of security agents stopped the gunmen from more people.

“The gunmen were in the process of abducting people when soldiers arrived. There was exchange between the soldiers and the gunmen. Probably, more people would have been abducted.”

He said lack of mobile telephone services in the area contributed to the delay in reporting the incident.
