Bauchi court jails three for stealing, renaming seven children

A High Court in Bauchi State has sentenced three persons to 21 years imprisonment for conspiracy, kidnapping and child theft.

The Bauchi State High Court 9 gave the judgment on October 7, 2026, according to a statement by the Bauchi State Police Command on Thursday.

Ruth Yarima, Chika Izuegbu and Abner Samuel were convicted after the court found them guilty of abducting seven children aged between infancy and five years and changing their names.

The stolen children and the name changes are:

  • Usman Adamu, 4 years – changed to Chibuke
  • Mahmud Bilyaminu, 4 years – changed to Chibunna
  • Muhammad Iliyasu, 5 years – changed to Chibere
  • Aisha, infant – changed to Chi’amaka
  • Hafizu Hassan, 3 years – changed to Ukechukwu
  • Abdulmudanlib Sa’adu, 4 years – changed to Ifeanyi Chukwu
  • Asiya Mukhtar, 3 years – changed to Chioma

The court however discharged and acquitted eight other suspects standing trial in the case.
