Bauchi govt honours new AUPCTRE General Secretary Aliyu Mohammed

The Bauchi State Government has honoured Comrade Aliyu Mohammed for his elevation to General Secretary of the Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services Employees, AUPCTRE.

The event, hosted by Governor Bala Mohammed, celebrated Comrade Aliyu’s milestone achievement and his distinguished service in the labour movement.

The reception was organised by the Office of the Special Adviser to Governor Bala Mohammed on Labour Matters. It brought together labour leaders, civil servants, and government officials to celebrate what was described as a significant achievement for both Bauchi State and the labour movement.

Speaking at the event, the Special Adviser on Labour Matters, Comrade Usman Danturaki, said the honour recognised Comrade Aliyu Mohammed’s years of dedication and commitment to workers’ welfare.

He noted that Comrade Aliyu is the second person from Bauchi State to attain the highest position in a national labour union, after Comrade Abdullahi Shehu, who was appointed General Secretary of the National Union of Banks and Financial Institutions Employees, NUBIFE, in the 1980s.

Danturaki described the new General Secretary’s elevation as a reflection of his competence, hard work, and contributions to organised labour at both state and national levels. He said Aliyu’s emergence as AUPCTRE General Secretary is a source of pride for Bauchi State and evidence of the quality of labour leadership the state produces.

He also acknowledged labour veterans whose mentorship, he said, has strengthened the labour movement over the years.

Danturaki congratulated the labour leader and urged him to continue projecting Bauchi State positively while discharging his new responsibilities.

The Special Adviser commended the cordial relationship between the state government and labour unions, noting that Bauchi has not witnessed any industrial action since 2019. He attributed this to Governor Bala Mohammed’s efforts to improve civil servants’ welfare and maintain open dialogue with unions, which he said has fostered stability and productivity in the public service.

Also speaking, the Head of Civil Service, Barr. Mohammed Sani Umar, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Establishment, Barr. Dawood Mahmoud, expressed confidence in Comrade Aliyu Mohammed’s ability to succeed in his new role and contribute meaningfully to advancing workers’ interests nationwide.

The National President of AUPCTRE, Comrade Benjamin Anthony, said Aliyu served the union with distinction and to the admiration of many. “His contributions to his country and humanity cannot be overemphasised, by virtue of his humility and exemplary life,” he said.

Benjamin noted that they had worked together for more than a decade, and Aliyu had consistently displayed leadership qualities and proven he could be trusted with positions that benefit people. He added that Aliyu’s emergence as General Secretary shows he is loved by his people and provides another opportunity for him to bring positive change to his people and the country at large.

He said AUPCTRE mentors members to attain leadership positions, and Aliyu rose through the ranks. Before his appointment, he was Head of the Finance Department, and the National President expressed confidence that he would justify the trust reposed in him.

In his remarks, Comrade Aliyu Mohammed expressed gratitude to Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, the state government, the Office of the Head of Civil Service, and labour unions for the honour.

He pledged to be a good ambassador of Bauchi State at the national level, saying Bauchi is his root and he started his journey there. “I will always count on your support to succeed,” he said.
