Bauchi NUJ inaugurates committee to address challenges of media houses

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has inaugurated a five-man committee to look at the problems militating against the progress of the media houses.

This is part of efforts to bring succour to the state owned media houses including the Bauchi State Television (BATV) and Bauchi Radio Corporation (BRC).

Bauchi State Chairman of NUJ Umar Sa’idu, who inaugurated the members, said the idea to form the committee is in line with NUJ’s determination to enhance excellence in jourmalism practice in the state.

He said the two broadcast media houses have a lot of audience hence the need for the government to upgrade the stations to make them up to date.

Sa’idu explained that veteran journalists including the former Permanent Secretary state ministry of information Inuwa Bello, former Managing Director BATV Ibrahim Idris Shall, former General Manager Radio Nigeria Globe FM Bauchi Dahiru Garba Mohammed, a director in the Bauchi Radio Corporation (BRC) Umar Shira and Fatima Abdullahi from ministry of information were selected to serve in the committee.

He said the terms of reference of the committee include to look at the challenges of the media houses and profer recommendations on how to revamp the stations, improve their services, revenue generation as well as boost the capacity of their staff. 

Sa’idu said that after the submission of the committee’s report, the NUJ would forward it to the state governor Bala Mohammed so that he could act on it.
