Yusuf Muhammadu Buhari, son of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, has announced his plan to run for the House of Representatives seat representing Daura/Sandamu/Maiaduwa Federal Constituency in Katsina State during the 2027 general elections.
Yusuf disclosed his intention to Katsina State Governor Dr. Dikko Umar Radda on Wednesday at the Government House in Katsina.
The announcement marks Yusuf’s first formal step into elective politics, positioning him to succeed the seat currently held by APC.
Daura is the political hometown of the late president and remains a stronghold of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Governor Radda received Yusuf at the Government House, though details of their discussion were not made public. The governor’s office has not yet issued a formal statement on the declaration.
Political observers say Yusuf’s entry could reshape the APC primary contest in Daura, given the Buhari family’s enduring influence in the zone.
The seat is currently seen as a safe APC constituency, with the party recently endorsing Governor Radda and President Bola Tinubu as sole candidates for 2027.
The APC in Katsina has so far maintained a unified front behind Radda and Tinubu ahead of the 2027 polls.
Yusuf ended his remarks by asking for public prayers and support as he prepares for the race.
