CBN job: What my father told President-elect Tinubu — Sanusi’s son

Former Emir of Kano Sanusi Lamido Sanusi has no interest in returning to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) but has notified the president-elect Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu that he is willing to advise him on his economic team.

A son of the former emir, Ashraf Sanusi, said this on Twitter on Wednesday.

He was replying to a tweet by one Imran Muhammad who shared a newspaper report that the “President-elect Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is considering bringing back Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as CBN Governor, according to a source.”

Muhammad went on to say that “As CBN governor between 2009 and 2014, Sanusi’s strong, independent leadership of the apex bank ensured relative stability of the financial market, especially after the turbulence of the global financial crisis of 2008/2009. Naira’s value stabilised around N155 to $1 for four years.”

Meanwhile, tweeps have continued to react to the post

“Sanusi is an excellent, brilliant and competent chap no doubt but bringing him back could mean there are no better hands but I guess there are more than a 100 who would fit that post perfectly. His tenure should be considered closed,” said Odunayo Feyisetan.

“Not gonna happen. BAT [Bola Ahmed Tinubu] is not tired of getting new talents. There are many other talents, said Nurudeen Idris.

Abu_Abdus_Somad said “We need fresh people with fresh ideas, who can do things differently other than the way we all familiar with. Sanusi has done it before, we know what he can do and of course we want something better this time.”

Abarshi Yusuf said “I don’t think SLS [Sanusi Lamido Sanusi] will accept the offer as he was currently in a position which was better than being CBN governor to him.”

Kayode Damilola said “As much as I believe in SLS yet I also believe the same way he was noticed and brought to light, there are young bright and talented Nigerians that can do it better.”
