Commissioners accuse FCC chairman of operating as sole administrator

  • It is not true – Dankaka

Some aggrieved federal commissioners of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), have raised alarm over the manner the Chairman, Fareeda Dankaka, is conducting the affairs of the commission.

Federal Commissioner representing Rivers State and Chairman, Integrity Group, Augustine Onyekachi Wokocha, who represented six other commissioners that addressed journalists in Abuja, said if trend of affairs of the Chairman is allowed to continue, would not augur well for the commission.

The Commissioners said Dankaka, after their several complaints, created Committees 1,2, 3 to replace the traditional sectoral ones, and said the Chairman is selfish and vindictive, and is single-handedly running the affairs of the commission which negates federal character principles.

The Commissioners said Dankaka issues certificate of compliance without input from commissioners, issues application for waiver without recourse to commissioners.

The aggrieved commissioners also said the budget of the commission is shrouded in secrecy, and said the chairman hired consultants without due process, claiming she operates as Sole Administrator and not Chairman.

The Chairman, Fareeda Dankaka, when contacted, said the allegations against her are false. She added that only few of the Commissioners, not more than two or three, are against her, stressing that the commission does not employ but exists to check the excesses of other MDAs.
