Coronavirus: Hajj, Olympics, Champions League, NBA playoffs and other events under threat

As the number of coronavirus cases spread across over 100 countries and territories, with over 4,300 fatalities, major global events are being threatened by the disease.

In Europe, in particular, cases continue to rise, with more than 10,000 in Italy, Dateline Nigeria takes a look at some of these events under threat unless the Covid-19 is tackled soonest.

New York International Music Festival
A music event for young musicians with an experience that offers the opportunity for musical growth while creating lasting memories. It is scheduled to hold between March 28 and April 1, 2020.

Nigerian International Film Summit in Paris
This is an international business summit focusing on various aspects of the TV content business with Nigeria in Paris, France. It is expected to hold from April 2 – 3, 2020.

2020 UEFA Champions League Final
This major soccer event is slated for Saturday, May 30, 2020 at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Turkey.

Women in the World Summit 2020
This is a major women event to be headlined by an Emmy and Golden Globe winning writer of “Fleabag”, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, at Lincoln Center in New York. Slated to hold April 2–April 3, 2020.

2020 NBA Playoffs
The 2020 NBA Playoffs first round schedule will be released following the conclusion of the 2019-20 regular season. It is scheduled to start April 18, 2020.

Euro 2020
This is scheduled to hold across European cities involving 24 teams. It will be staged between June 12 and July 12, 2020.

2020 Summer Olympics
The 2020 Summer Olympics is an upcoming international multi-sport event that is scheduled to hold in Tokyo, Japan from Friday, July 24 to August 9, 2020.

Annual Hajj exercise
Hajj is a pilgrimage made to Kaaba which is obligatory for able bodied Muslims who can afford. The annual exercise takes place in Saudi Arabia. It is expected to start towards the end of July.
