Court adjourns Nnamdi Kanu’s trial to 2022

A Federal High Court in Abuja has adjourned the trial of the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu to January 19-20, 2022.

The trial judge, Justice Binta Nyako, disclosed this shortly after the case came up for the hearing on Wednesday.

Kanu is facing trial after the Federal Government filed a seven-count amended charge, bordering on treasonable felony and alleged involvement in acts of terrorism.

The separatist leader was brought to court around 10am. He also protested the decision of the Department of State Services (DSS) to bar his lawyer Maxwell Opara, from the courtroom. Other lawyers representing Kanu, including Ifeanyi Ejiofor da Aloy Ejimakor, were however allowed in.

Security agents also blocked journalists and some Igbo traditional rulers from gaining access to the court room.

It would be recalled that South East monarchs and some political leaders have indicated interest to find a political solution to end the matter.
