COVID-19: No confirmed case in Niger State, governor says

The Niger State Government has denied a story by a newspaper claiming a confirmed case of COVID 19 in the state.

Niger State Governor Abubakar Sani Bello said this via a posting on his official twitter handle.

The paper had quoted the state commissioner for health Dr Muhammad Makusidi confirming that one person has tested positive to the COVID-19 in the state, while six other suspected cases are now in self-isolation.

But the statement from the governor’s handle said “The attention of Niger State Government has been drawn to an online publication by Daily Trust Newspaper claiming a confirmed case of COVID 19 in the state.

“There is no confirmed case in Niger State. However, some citizens of the State schooling in UK who returned three days ago are on self-isolation.

“None of those on self-isolation have exhibited any sign or symptom of COVID-19.

“The Niger State Government wishes to reassure the public that there has been no suspected or confirmed case of COVID 19 in Niger State.”
