Dabo wins PDP ticket for Bauchi South, sets up 2027 showdown with Gov Bala

Philanthropist Dr. Danjuma Adamu Dabo has won the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket for Bauchi South Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Dabo, a grassroots politician and founder of the Danjuma Dabo Foundation, defected to the PDP from the APC following pressure from supporters, urging him to contest for the Bauchi South seat in the Senate.

He emerged as the consensus candidate at the PDP state congress in Bauchi, witnessed by a large crowd of supporters, party officials, representatives of the PDP national headquarters, INEC officials, and other stakeholders. The congress committee affirmed his election in line with party guidelines and the Electoral Act.

His emergence reshapes the race for Bauchi South. Dabo will face Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, who is running on the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement, APC candidate Yakubu Shehu Abdullahi, and ADC candidate Garba Dahiru Salanken in 2027.

The PDP state congress also had in attendance seven PDP aspirants for the Bauchi State House of Assembly, party members from the seven local government areas in the zone, and officials from the Department of State Services and other security agencies.

Dabo previously contested the senatorial seat under the Congress for Progressive Change. He is a former Executive Director at the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency and served as National Implementation Advisor for the World Bank-funded Better Education Service Delivery for All program under UBEC. Through his Danjuma Dabo Foundation, he provides free education for indigent students and orphans in Bauchi.

Speaking after his selection, Dabo said: “Today, with a heart full of humility and a deep sense of responsibility, I feel honoured to have been declared as the consensus senatorial candidate of our party for Bauchi South Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“This moment is not a personal victory but a victory for democracy, for unity of purpose, and for our collective commitment to the progress of Bauchi South.

“I thank Almighty Allah for His infinite grace. I also extend my gratitude to our leaders at all levels—from the national leadership of the PDP to our state chapter and the stakeholders of Bauchi South—who, through consultations and a spirit of brotherhood, endorsed my candidacy after a successful screening exercise.

“Looking ahead to 2027, my vision is for a Bauchi South that is fully integrated into the digital economy, where our youth have access to practical skills and global opportunities, and where every farmer has the support to move from subsistence farming to commercial agribusiness.

“This declaration is a call to service, not a celebration. I pledge to run a clean, issue-based campaign free of rancour. I reach out to every stakeholder to join this movement for progress.

“The mandate given to me today is a sacred trust. Under the banner of the PDP, a party rooted in the grassroots across the state, we will give you the best representation possible.”
