Day police reunited stolen 3-year-old boy with parents in Kaduna

  • I bought him for N2m, arrested suspect tells police

The Kaduna State Police Command has reunited a three-year-old boy, Yusuf Muhammad, with his parents more than five months after he was abducted from their home in Rafin Guza area of the metropolis.

The child, who had been renamed Success David, was handed over to his family on 21 May 2026 at the command headquarters in Kaduna by Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansur Hassan.

According to the police, a journalist covering the command became suspicious after seeing the boy behaving awkwardly with a woman. He recorded a video, which the parents later identified as their missing child.

Police launched an investigation through the Afaka Division and traced the woman identified as Florence Chibuzor to the Mando area of Kaduna metropolis, about 10km from Rafin Guza.

According to the police, the woman initially claimed the child was hers but later confessed during interrogation that she bought him for N2 million and paid a N200,000 commission. Those who received the payment got N1.8 million, police said.

The suspect is from Imo State but has lived in Kaduna for over 35 years. She works as a teacher at a private school, which the police did not name, saying the institution was not involved. The command said it is working with the school to disengage her and ensure she is prosecuted.

Police said investigations are ongoing to determine whether Chibuzor bought the child or was directly involved in the abduction.

While handing over Yusuf to his parents, DSP Hassan said the command would seek the family’s assistance in prosecuting the suspect. The parents commended the police for rescuing their son.

Hassan urged parents to be vigilant about their children’s whereabouts, warning that some stolen children end up with ritualists. He advised those seeking to adopt to follow legal procedures through registered orphanages.

“It is not only unfair to separate a child from his parents, it is also a heinous crime that attracts severe punishment,” he said.
