Edo police recover stolen vehicle in hunt for robbery syndicate

The Edo State Police Command has recovered one of the two Toyota Highlander vehicles stolen during a robbery incident at the residence of Hon. Kennedy Odion, State Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Benin City, on 6 September 2026.

The recovery, which took place around the New Benin axis, is the outcome of sustained intelligence gathering and coordinated operational efforts set in motion immediately after the incident.

The Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, CP Patrick Daaor, had personally visited the scene of the robbery and directed the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) to intensify efforts towards tracking down those responsible, recovering the stolen property and bringing the perpetrators to justice.

Acting on intelligence, operatives of the VCRU have remained firmly on the trail of the robbery syndicate, culminating in the recovery of the Toyota Highlander with registration number LSR 729 HY.

The recovery is a significant breakthrough in the ongoing operation and reinforces the Command’s resolve that criminals who target the lives and property of residents of Edo State will not be allowed to operate with impunity.

The operation has not been concluded. The Command has intensified efforts to recover the second stolen vehicle and other items taken during the robbery, while closing in on those behind the incident. The objective remains clear: recover what was stolen, identify those responsible and bring them to justice.

The Commissioner of Police reassures residents that the Command will continue to pursue criminal elements with intelligence, determination and strategic deployment of its operational resources. He also called on members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly provide the Police with useful information on suspicious persons, movements or activities, noting that timely information can make the difference in preventing crime and bringing offenders to justice.
