Eid el-Kabir: NDLEA raids drug hotspots, arrests 38 in Kano

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano Strategic Command, under the leadership of CN DY Lawal, has concluded a two-day raid in its “Operation Sharar Mafaka”, leading to the arrest of 38 suspects in multiple drug hotspots across the Kano metropolis.

The operation was intensified ahead of the Eid al-Kabir (Sallah) celebrations to prevent the exploitation of festive gatherings by criminal elements.

The operation targeted notorious drug joints and resulted in arrests and recoveries at the following locations:

• Fagge • Filin Idi • Gyadi Gyadi • Hotoro • Tashar Rami • Audu Bako Secretariat • Hauren Gadagi • Kofar Mata • Sheka • Farm Center

Seizures recovered during the raids include assorted illicit substances and several locally manufactured weapons.

Recovered items include, among others: • Cannabis sativa • Exol-5 • Diazepam • “Suck and Die” • Rubber solution • Locally made weapons

Speaking on the outcome, CN DY Lawal said, “We have intensified enforcement ahead of the Sallah period because unscrupulous elements often exploit festive events to expand their criminal activities.

“We will continue to hit the joints until our streets are safe. Our operations will be sustained to ensure a peaceful Sallah celebration for all citizens.”

He said thw operation is in line with the directive of the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Agency, retired Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa to ensure safe streets for all Nigerians.

“The arrested suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue and will be prosecuted where evidence warrants,” Lawal added.

The NDLEA Kano Strategic Command, in a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, an Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics, said it remains committed to disrupting drug supply networks and ensuring public safety during major events and throughout the year.

The command urged community members and institutions to report suspicious activities to help identify and dismantle the remaining drug havens.
