Kaduna State Governor Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai has spoken of the impending appointment of a new Emir of Zazzau following the demise of Alhaji Shehu Idris.
Speaking via a post on his Facebook page, the governor said “While awaiting the recommendations of the Zazzau Emirate kingmakers, I am re-reading Prof M G Smith’s authoritative epic on the selection of Zazzau Emirs from 1800 to 1950 to guide me in taking a decision. ‘Government in Zazzau’ was published in 1960.
“The kingmakers recommend but ultimate responsibility to choose rests on my humble self. I must be as knowledgeable about the process as the aspirants and kingmakers,” he posted.
Dateline Nigeria reports that the people of the Zazzau Emirate and Nigerians in general are waiting anxiously to hear the name of the new monarch who will succeed Alhaji Shehu Idris.
Some of the names being mentioned as possible successor to the Zazzau throne include the eldest son of the deceased emir and Turakin Zazzau Alhaji Aminu Shehu Idris.
Others are Iyan Zazzau Alhaji Bashar Aminu, Yariman Zazzau Alhaji Munir Jaafaru, and Magajin Garin Zazzau Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli.
