Exclusive: Katsina abductors demand N250m to free school children

Abductors of the students of Government Science Secondary School, Kankara, are asking for N250million ransom before they will set free their victims, an official of the school has told Dateline Nigeria.

The official, who does not want to be named because he is not authorized to brief the press on the matter, said the demand was made on Sunday, two days after the children were taken from their school hostel.

Dateline Nigeria gathered that over 300 students still missing are presumed to be held in the bush by their abductors.

The school official official did not disclose who the bandits contacted or if the ransom was going to be paid.

Governor Aminu Masari has inforned President Muhammadu Buhari that they had established contact with the abductors and that discussions were on pertaining to the safety and return of the children. But he did not speak about random demand.

The governor who briefed Buhari Monday, said they was progress and with a positive outlook.

A statement by the president’s senior special assistant, Malam Garba Shehu, said Masari was accompanied his deputy, Mannir Yakubu.

“Governor Masari also noted that security agencies had located the position of the children.

“The Governor said the President was fully committed to the rescue of the school children, adding that it was only appropriate to visit the President and give him more details of rescue efforts,” the statement said.

Security sources disclosed that an additonal 15 students have been rescued by the military on Monday and handed over to the police.
