The FCT Police Command has dismissed as false a viral social media publication alleging that young people in Nyanya have sold their kidneys and that an agent in Mararaba is purchasing human organs.
In a statement on Tuesday, the Command said it has neither received nor confirmed any report of kidney sales in Nyanya, and that no such communication emanated from the Police.
“The FCT Police Command is aware of publications circulating on social media alleging that the Command has confirmed reports that young people residing around Nyanya area of the FCT have sold their kidneys for money, and that an agent in Mararaba is purchasing human kidneys,” the statement read.
“The FCT Police Command wishes to categorically state that it has neither received nor confirmed any report of such nature, and no statement or communication to that effect has emanated from the Command.”
The Police urged residents to disregard the publication and refrain from sharing unverified information “capable of causing unnecessary fear, panic and apprehension among residents.”
However, the Command said it remains open to credible information. It encouraged anyone with information regarding alleged human organ trafficking or any other security concern in the FCT to report to the nearest Police Station or contact the Command via 07038979348 and 08028940883.
