The FCT Police Command has identified officers captured in a viral video allegedly extorting an FCT resident of ₦40,000 along Wuye – Utako Road, and says the officers are currently in custody.
In a press statement issued on Monday, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, said the Command’s attention was drawn to the video showing the alleged extortion near Salem Church, within the Federal Capital Territory.
According to the statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the officers depicted in the video have been identified and are in custody pending investigation.
The Command has also invited the complainant to the FCT Police Command Headquarters to tender an official statement to aid disciplinary action. The complainant can reach the Command’s Public Relations Officer on 07038979348 or 08180382808.
CP Sanusi reiterated that the Command will not tolerate extortion, abuse of authority, misconduct, or any form of unprofessional conduct by police personnel.
“Any officer found culpable after due investigation will be subjected to appropriate disciplinary and legal action in accordance with extant laws and regulations,” the statement read.
The Command urged members of the public to report cases of police misconduct and provide relevant information that may assist investigations, adding that it remains committed to accountability, professionalism, and respect for the rights of all residents of the FCT.
