FG distributes relief materials to Zamfara IDPs

The Minister for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Hajiya Sadiya Umar-Faruk, has provided relief materials to  Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Zamfara.

Presenting the relief materials, the minister who was represented by the Special Adviser to the President on Humanitarian Services, Malam Musa Bungudu, said the gesture was aimed at alleviating the humanitarian crisis of the people displaced by bandit attacks or flooding in the state.

The items provided included 100 bails of used cloth, 1,120 bags of 25kg Rice and 40 jerry cans of cooking oil.

Bungudu commended the efforts of the state government in collaborating with the federal government through the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs toward providing relief materials and resettlement of people affected by conflicts and disasters.

Receiving the items, the state Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Hajiya Faika Ahmad, expressed gratitude to the federal government and the ministry in particular over the gesture.

She commended the timely response to the calamities affecting the state and called on wealthy individuals, donor agencies and other organisation to support the state.

Faika said a total of 184,000 households were displaced, and the number of IDPs in the state had reached 600,000 including women and children.

The commissioner promised that the relief materials would reach the target beneficiaries. (NAN)
