Fintiri asks police to investigate murder of student accused of phone theft

Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has directed the Adamawa State Police Commissioner to investigate the alleged murder of a secondary school student, Abdallah allegedly by the state’s “Operation Farauta” operatives.

Dateline Nigeria reports that Abdallah was accused of stealing the phone of a neighbour and was picked up from their residence by men said to be operatives of the state’s Operation Farauta, who tortured him, leading to his death.

Many social media users have demanded justice for the slain student, saying that he was returned home unconscious and his parents had to take him to the Modibbo Adamawa University Teaching Hospital, where he remained unconscious until his death four days later. It is also said that it was eventually established that a different person stole the phone.

Fintiri, in a social media post on Friday, said, “I have directed the Adamawa State Police Commissioner to investigate the alleged murder of Abdallah, supposedly tortured by “Operation Farauta” operatives.

“The investigation seeks to reveal the truth, ensure justice, and safeguard citizens’ rights. The incident originated from a neighbor’s theft accusation.

“I urge for calm and extend condolences to the family of the deceased. Let us cooperate with security agencies as they work tirelessly to keep our state safe.”
