Flood: NEMA pays advocacy visit to Kaduna

A sub committee of the flood committee constituted by the Director General AVM M. A. Muhammed (Rtd) on Thursday visited Kaduna State on an advocacy visit based on the 2020 flood prediction.

The team led by Mal. Abdullahi Usur arrived from Abuja and was received by the Zonal Coordinator NEMA Northwest and some key staff.

The delegation then proceeded to visit the Disaster Reaction Units (DRUs), i.e the 401fts and 2BN, Kaduna state SEMA and the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources.

The aim of the visit is to ascertain the level of preparedness of the state and stakeholders, to further strengthen the relationship between NEMA and the DRUs, and find out their level of preparedness during disasters especially with regards to flooding, also as a follow-up on the letter sent to State Governments earlier by the Agency, to reinforce the flood mitigation and sensitization activities carried out earlier by the Zonal/Operational/Territorial Offices, to further strengthen the collaboration between stakeholders during response at times of emergencies.

The team had an interactive session with critical stakeholders and challenges during response were discussed.
