Ganduje, Shekarau rift not surprising to me, Kwankwaso says

Former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has blamed the ongoing crisis in the Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on the selfishness of Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

Dateline Nigeria reports that the Kano APC is enmeshed in a crisis as Ganduje and some lawmakers from the state led by former Governor Ibrahim Shekarau battle for the party’s control.

Speaking in a interview with the BBC Hausa service, Kwankwaso said he was not in anyway surprised with the turn of event in the Kano APC, adding that he has always known that it was only a matter of time before something like that happened.

“Whoever cannot keep someone that has helped him for years – he himself has admitted how I have helped him – but once he assumed position of authority, he couldn’t keep Kwankwaso and the Kwankwasiyya, you can’t refer such person as a peace-loving being,” Kwankwaso said.

Kwankwaso said the APC crisis was fuelled by selfishness and impatience. “It has only confirmed something I have always known,” he added.

He also said he was happy with the good things said about him by former governor Ibrahim Shekarau.

“I heard with he (Shekarau) said about me and I had to thank the Almighty Allah. Because it is like he is now knowing what didn’t understand. I was happy because going by the context in which he made the remark, it seems he was sincere,” Kwankwaso said.

He added that “If politics brings us together again, we will work. Even if it doesn’t, at least there is a positive development with regards to his thinking about the true state of affairs.”

Answering a question on the recent birthday message sponsored by Ganduje congratulating him on his 65th birthday, Kwankwaso said he didn’t see it because he was very busy.

“I didn’t know because I was busy working. If he had been like that from the beginning, it would have been different.

“I have lived peacefully with people, including Ganduje. We left government together in 2003 and went to the Ministry of Defence, we also arranged how he went to Lake Chad commission from where I asked him to come for us to continue working together.

“I gave him the deputy governor’s form without him paying a dime, because in Kwankwasiyya, no body will ask you to pay a kobo,” Kwankwaso said.

However, he said, despite all he had done for his former deputy, Ganduje has no political foe bigger than him.
