- Says merit has always prevailed in appointing CJs
Kogi Governor, Yahaya Bello said his administration has ensured that merit always prevailed in the appointment of Chief Judges and other Judicial Officers in the state adding that irrespective of religion or tribe the next in line had always emerged.
Governor Bello stated this on Monday at the swearing in of Justice Josiah Joe Majebi as the new Acting Chief Judge of the state.

The event which held at the Glasshouse of Government House Lokoja witnessed the administering of oaths of office for the Ag. CJ, following the retirement of the former Chief Judge, Justice Richard Olurunfemi.
Gov. Bello reiterated his stands on equality, fairness and justice stressing that this was the 5th successive Chief Judge appointed during administration without hiccups in the process.
Gov Bello explained that his government has continued working to bridge the gap and bring about synergy between the executive, the legislative and the judicial arms of government.
He urged the acting Chief Judge to ensure the unity of the judiciary, interpret the rule of law while charging other judges to support him in ensuring that the arm of government was taken to greater heights.
In his vote of thanks, Justice Majebi thanked the Governor for finding him worthy to be appointed as acting Chief Justice of the State while promising to discharge his duties to the best of his abilities.
Justice Majebi also stated that his road map would be the strengthening of Judicial integrity by ensuring a corrupt-free Kogi state judicial arm while he intimated the governor of his plan to inaugurate a council of Judges that would alongside himself take critical decisions.
