Gunmen have attacked the convoy of Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom on his farm at Tyo-mu, along Makurdi-Gboko road.
Governor Ortom, who confirmed the attack to journalists at the Benue Peoples House, said he was inspecting the farm when the gunmen dressed in black opened fire on him and his security men.
He said it took the response of his security aides to repel the attack, adding that troops of operation whirl stroke have been mobilised to the forest between Tyo-Mu and Abinse where the armed herdsmen are camped to comb the area..
The governor said the attack came a few days after the leadership of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore met in Yola and singled him out as a thorn in their flesh who must be eliminated, pointing out that he received intelligence to that effect.
Ortom also promised to send a petition to President Muhammadu Buhari and security chiefs.
