Gunmen kill 16 worshippers in Niger mosque

Gunmen have killed 16 worshippers and injured many others in an attack on a mosque at Ba’are village in Mashegu Local Government Area of Niger State.

The Secretary to the Niger State Government Ahmed Ibrahim Matane said the incident occured around 5:30am on Wednesday when the residents were observing the early morning prayer.

He said the gunmen, numbering about 200, stormed the community on motorcycles, adding that security agents have been deployed to protect the area.

The latest incident is coming less than a month after gunmen attacked a mosque and killed 18 worshippers in Mazakuka community of the same local government.

Mashegu is one the local governments after Kontagora neighbouring forests where bandits have set up camps.
