At least 30 people were killed in a late-night attack by gunmen on Naridon Village in Kamaru Ward, Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Amnesty International has said.
In a statement on Monday, July 27, 2026, the human rights organisation condemned what it described as a “ruthless attack” on the southern Kaduna community.
According to Amnesty, dozens of residents who tried to flee were pursued into the bush and killed. The community has also declared many people missing, with efforts still ongoing to ascertain the full death toll as more bodies are being discovered in homes and on nearby farms.
“Gory images obtained by Amnesty International show entire families locked up and slaughtered inside their bedrooms,” the organisation said. “Children had their throats slit and their heads left with massive cuts. There was blood on beds, in kitchens and on the trails of those bleeding while trying to escape.”
Amnesty described the attack as “perhaps one of the deadliest” on southern Kaduna villages, noting that some communities in the area have experienced similar attacks more than five times.
The group faulted the government’s response to insecurity in rural areas. It referenced President Bola Tinubu’s repeated directive to security agencies to end the killings “so that rural communities can go to bed with their eyes closed,” but said “clearly nothing has changed.”
“The spate of these killings is evidence of failure of authorities to protect the people. Inability of authorities to bring attackers to justice is fueling impunity,” Amnesty stated.
As of press time, security agencies in Kaduna State were yet to issue an official statement on the casualty figures or arrests.
