ICPC inaugurates anti-corruption unit at Federal University Dutse

The Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) has inaugurated the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) of Federal University Dutse.

Barrister Ibrahim Garba Kagara, the ICPC Resident Commissioner in Kano, who conducted the inauguration, said the ICPC Act, 2000 provides the ICPC with a three thronged approach in fighting. corruption; enforcement, prevention and mass mobilsation of the populace.

He added that the ICPC established the Anti- Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) in 2001 in collaboration with Head of Civil Service of Federation to serve as internal regulatory mechanism to identify lapses and check unethical practices through investigation and reporting such practices.

He congratulated the members of the FUD ACTU adding that they have been found worthy before their appointment as ACTU members. He said their job is to ensure sanity in the way things are done in the system.

In a paper presented by Malam Shehu Dange of the ICPC, ACTU according to him is expected to perform system review, monitor budget implementation and educate members of the community on the need to adhere to the rules of engagement at all times.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Vice- Chancellor, Prof. Abdulkarik Sabo Mohammed said he has been an advocate of transparency for years having worked at places where openness and transparency is order of the day adding that at this juncture in the life of the country, transparency and accountability is needed at all places.

He congratulated members of ACTU and wish them well in their new assignment.
