Islamic calender: Kano, Yobe, Osun declare Monday work-free

Kano State Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has declared Monday, Muharram 1, 1443 AH (August 9, 2021) as work-free day in the State.

A statement signed by the Commissioner for Information, Malam Muhammad Garba explained that the holiday was in commemoration of the new Islamic calendar 1443 AH.

The governor urged workers to use the work-free day to pray for the country to deliver it from the prevailing security challenges.

Ganduje also congratulated Nigerian Muslims on the dawn of the new Islamic year, which calls for thanksgiving and sober reflection.

The statement further enlisted the support and cooperation of the people for the government as it strives hard to better their lot in the face of daunting challenges facing the nation.

The Yobe State Government also declared Monday 9, August, 2021 as public holiday to commemorate the Islamic New Year (Hijrah) 1443.

Yobe State Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, gave the approval to enable Civil Servants and other citizens of the State observe the ushering-in of the New Islamic Year.

“The Governor congratulates Muslims on the dawn of yet another New Islamic Year and solicits for support and cooperation of the people in order for the State to attain greater height.

“Hon. Mai Mala Buni equally enjoins people of the State to use the occasion to pray for peace to reign in the country as well as for bumper hearvest during this farming season. Normal work however resumes on Tuesday, 10′ August, 2021”, the Yobe State Head of Service Muhammad B. Nura said in a statement.

Also, Osun State Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, has declared Monday as a public holiday in commemoration of Hijrah, 1443 AH.

The state Commissioner for Home Affairs, Tajudeen Lawal, speaking on behalf of the Governor on Friday, enjoined the people of the State to use the period of the holiday to pray for the growth and development of the State and Nigeria.
