Groom speaks on ‘abduction’ of Kano bride 24 hours to wedding

A bride-to-be is believed to have been kidnapped less than 24 hours to her wedding earlier slated to hold today in Kano.

Amina Gwani Sham’un Danzarga got missing on her way home in Koki from Dorayi area of Kano metropolis.

A family member Gwani Rayyanu Danzarga told Freedom Radio in Kano that the abductors had made contact using the victim’s mobile phone and warned them not to call back.

An SMS was also sent, asking for prayers for her.

Danzarga added that Amina’s wedding was billed to hold today (Sunday, March 14) with the man she introduced to the family and there was no problem between them.

We have to suspend wedding indefinitely – Groom

The groom, Umar Hassan Umar said “I was dumbfounded when I heard the news. I was actually leaning against a wall but when I heard did, I didn’t know when I collapsed. Malam Mukhtar later called me and said I shouldn’t be too hard on myself and that I should just pray over it. I believe what happened was by the will of the Almighty Allah and only He can solve this puzzle, but it is really traumatizing.

“On the eve of the incident, on my way to the airport around 8:30pm I called Amina three times but the service was poor. Eventually she called me back and talked about the wedding preparations. When I noticed that the conversation was dragging I promised to call her back as I was driving at the time. When I returned, I called her around 11pm and her phone was switched off. I didn’t suspect anything. I only thought possibly her phone died or was tired and needed some rest.

“But the following morning around 7am I decided to call her again and the line was not going through. We used to talk in the morning. Sometimes I will call her immediately after the morning prayer and we will talk. I don’t believe Amina will do this to herself, probably friends. Amina is a very responsible person.

“He said they would have to put the wedding on hold pending what will manifest in the next few days. Whatever has a beginning surely has an end. My prayer is that Almighty Allah will keep her safe wherever she is. I also pray for her parents who were also traumatized by this development. We have visited them and sympathized with them,” he said.

When contacted, the spokesman of the Kano State Police Command DSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa said he has not received any report on the matter.
