A Kano High Court presided over by Justice Abdu Maiwada Abubakar has given an interim order, restraining the state police commissioner, Ismaila Dikko, and one Inspector Friday from arresting a popular journalist, Nasir Zango.

Dissatisfied with the report, the commissioner of police allegedly ordered for the journalist’s arrest.

When the journalist got wind of the development, he rushed to court to seek protection against harassment and detention.

After hearing Abba Hikima, the counsel for the journalist, the judge issued the order on Thursday.

“An order of Interim Injunction is hereby granted retraining the 1st and 2nd Respondents in person or through their officers, agents or privies from threatening to arrest, arresting or howsoever interfering with the Applicant’s right of expression and press freedom in connection with the subject matter of this suit, pending the hearing and determination of the substantive application,” the order read.

The case is adjourned to November 19, 2021 for hearing of Motion on Notice. (Daily Nigerian)
