The Kano State Police Command has arrested two suspected armed robbers and recovered a stolen tricycle following an intelligence-led operation supported by community members in Dala Local Government Area.
The arrest was announced in a statement on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.
According to the Command, the breakthrough came on 21st July 2026 at about 11:30pm after a distress call was received at Dala Police Division.
A tricycle rider, Abdulrahman Atula, 22, of Kawo Hotoro, reported that he was lured by unknown persons, given an intoxicating substance, and robbed of his tricycle at gunpoint. Tricycle details: Registration No. AJG 170 VC, KAROTA No. NSR 0709.
Acting on the report and in line with directives from the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, the Divisional Police Officer, Dala Division, mobilized a patrol team. With credible information from residents, the team tracked and arrested two suspects with the stolen tricycle in their possession.
The suspects were identified as: Usman Ashiru, 26, of Rijiyar Lemo; and Abubakar Ali, 28, of the same address
The victim was taken to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital Kano and is said to be responding to treatment.
During investigation, police said 10 other tricycle operators came forward and positively identified the suspects as the ones who robbed them using the same method in Dorayi and Bachirawa Quarters.
“The suspects are part of an armed robbery syndicate that specializes in luring Tricycle riders, drugging them, and dispossessing them of their Tricycles,” the statement said.
The Command is now calling on any other tricycle operator robbed in a similar manner within Kano Metropolis to report at Dala Police Division for an identification parade, or contact the DPO on 08036885094.
Police added that discreet investigation is ongoing to apprehend more members of the syndicate and recover additional exhibits. The case will be charged to court once investigation is concluded.
CP Bakori commended the vigilance of the community member who reported the incident and the continued support of tricycle operators and transport unions.
“The Kano State Police Command reiterates its commitment to the protection of lives and property and assures all residents that perpetrators of violent crime will be made to face the full wrath of the law,” Kiyawa stated.
Residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station.
