Kano police bust drug syndicate, seize 879 parcels of suspected Cannabis

Operatives of the Kano State Police Command have arrested a suspected drug peddler and recovered 879 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Cannabis Sativa in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area.

According to a press release issued on May 15, 2026, the arrest was made on May 13 at about 6:00 p.m. by officers of the Dawakin Tofa Police Division acting on credible intelligence.

The suspect, identified as Umaru, alias “Jalo,” of Yan Shado Village, was caught offloading 18 sacks of the suspected substance into his residence.

A search of the premises yielded the 18 sacks, which contained a total of 879 parcels of dried leaves believed to be Cannabis Sativa.

The suspect is currently in custody and undergoing investigation.

The operation followed a directive from the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, instructing operational commanders to target individuals linked to drug dealing using intelligence gathered from open sources and community feedback.

The action aligns with the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu’s, policy on intelligence-led and community-based policing aimed at dismantling criminal networks.

CP Bakori reiterated the command’s zero-tolerance stance on drug trafficking and abuse, saying illicit drugs remain a major driver of violent crime, thuggery, and social disorder in the state.

He directed a thorough investigation to identify the suspect’s suppliers, distribution network, and possible sponsors.

The suspect will be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation.

The command commended the informant and urged residents to continue providing timely information on criminal activities, assuring that the identity of informants would be protected. Suspicious activities can be reported via the command’s emergency lines: 08032419754, 08123821575, and 09029292926.

The statement was signed by CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, Police Public Relations Officer, for the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command.
