Kano police hand over lost bag to owner, hail tricycle operator’s honesty

The Kano State Police Command has reunited a lost bag containing clothing and an undisclosed amount of cash with its rightful owner, following a public appeal and the honesty of a commercial tricycle operator.

The bag was found in November 2025 by Abba Abdullahi Abubakar of Hotoro Quarters after a passenger inadvertently left it in his tricycle while traveling from Hotoro Quarters to Naibawa Yan Lemo Quarters.

Rather than keep it, Abubakar made several efforts to locate the owner, including radio announcements, before handing it over to the Kano State Police Command Headquarters at Bompai for safekeeping.

Following the Command’s public notice, the owner, Abdullahi Saleh of Bursali Village in Zaki Local Government Area, Bauchi State, reported to the Police Public Relations Officer’s office at Bompai. After presenting valid proof of ownership and identification, the bag was formally returned to him.

Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori commended both Abubakar and Saleh for their cooperation and adherence to due process, saying their actions strengthen public trust in the police and uphold values of honesty, integrity, and community partnership.

Bakori reiterated the Command’s commitment to transparency and citizen-centered policing, urging residents to report found items and assist law enforcement in reuniting lost property with owners.

He said such conduct reflects responsible citizenship and enhances community-police relations.
