Kano police intercept stolen vehicle at Takai border, hand over to owner

Operatives of the Kano State Police Command have intercepted a stolen vehicle and arrested a suspect at Takai Local Government Area following an intelligence-led operation.

According to a press release issued on May 15, 2026, the command received a distress call on May 12 at about 4:54 p.m. reporting that a silver Pontiac Vibe with registration number KMC 928 LK had been stolen in Kaduna and was heading toward Kano.

Acting on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, police mobilized divisional officers at border local government areas to intercept the vehicle.

The Divisional Police Officer, Takai Division, mounted a roadblock along the highway where operatives stopped the vehicle and arrested the driver, identified as Christian Ikwumesi, 38, of Benin, Edo State.

Preliminary investigation confirmed the vehicle was stolen from Kaduna State.

The suspect has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Kano, for further investigation into the criminal network involved.

The recovered vehicle has been verified and handed over to the rightful owner, who commended the police for the swift operation.

CP Bakori praised the response of the Takai Division and reiterated the command’s commitment to inter-state collaboration and rapid response to distress calls.
