Umar, who was paraded before journalists by the Katsina Police Public Relations Officer, SP Gambo Isah, said he met his girlfriend on the social media and decided to pay her a visit.

“We met on the internet and after sometime, I told her that I wanted to come and see her parents and she obliged,” said Umar, who hails from Kari town of Makarfi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

“I spent two days in their house here in Katsina and on the third day when I was leaving, I took with me her brother’s laptop, three caps and some textile materials. I also moved to another room and take two pairs of shoes,” he added.

Umar, who claimed to be a phone dealer, said he had planned to block the girl and unfriend her on social media after deceiving her until the police succeeded in tracking and arresting him.

He also said that this is the first time he was deceiving a girl and blamed it on bad fate.
