Katsina politician Junaidu ‘Yantumaki dies at 77

A popular Katsina State politician, businessman and former public servant Alhaji Junaidu Mamuda ‘Yantumaki has passed on at the age of 77.

He died on Monday after a protracted illness, Dateline Nigeria learnt.

Born on April 15, 1944 in ‘Yantumaki in Dutsinma Local Government Area of Katsina State, ‘Yantumaki was the governorship candidate of the defunct All Peoples Party (APP) in Katsina State in 1999, but was defeated by Umaru Musa Yar’Adua of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He obtained the School Certificate and Higher School Certificate in 1963 and 1965 respectively. He later went to the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he read administration and graduated in 1970.

In 1977, he got an M.Sc. degree from the University of Manchester, England. He also obtained a Diploma in Development Administration from Leeds University in 1972.

Alhaji Mamuda was the General Manager, Kaduna State Water Board between 1979 and 1983 and currently the Deputy Managing- Director, Nigerian Paper Mill, Jebba. He has also held various positions in old Kaduna State (before the creation of Katsina State) public service which he joined in 1970.
