The Kebbi State Government has fixed Monday, July 27, 2026, for the conduct of its third Mass Wedding Programme, an initiative of the Wife of the Governor, Her Excellency, Hajiya Nafisa Nasir Idris, with the full support of Governor Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu.
The Chairman of the Main Organising Committee, Alhaji Suleiman Muhammad Argungu, Jarman Kabi, disclosed this while briefing journalists in Birnin Kebbi on the level of preparations for the event.
He said all necessary arrangements had been concluded to ensure a successful and hitch-free exercise.
Alhaji Suleiman explained that the programme is specifically designed to support three categories of women—orphans, widows and divorcees. He said a total of 300 brides had been carefully selected from the 21 Local Government Areas of the state through ward, local government and state committees established to oversee the exercise.
According to him, the selection process was conducted strictly in accordance with Islamic principles, with the consent of parents or guardians (Wali), while the prospective brides freely chose their spouses. He added that all necessary Shari’ah requirements, including the involvement of guardians and representatives (Wakil), had been duly observed to ensure that the marriages comply with the teachings of Islam.
The committee chairman further disclosed that the Kebbi State Government would pay the Sadaqi (dowry) of ₦250,000 for each bride on behalf of the grooms, in line with Islamic tradition.
He noted that the official presentation of the dowries would form part of the activities scheduled for the mass wedding ceremony on July 27.
Jarman Kabi stated that, in addition to the payment of dowries, each bride would receive a comprehensive package of household items, including beds, mattresses, furniture, cooking utensils and other essential domestic equipment to enable the couples to begin married life comfortably.
Alhaji Suleiman said arrangements had already been completed for the distribution and transportation of the items to the 21 Local Government Areas, where local committees had inspected and confirmed suitable accommodation for the newly married couples before the items were delivered for safekeeping.
He also revealed that the security, medical screening and other relevant committees were fully in place to ensure the smooth conduct of the programme and compliance with all laid-down guidelines.
The committee chairman commended Governor Nasir Idris and the Wife of the Governor for sustaining the mass wedding initiative, describing it as a humanitarian programme aimed at promoting family values, supporting vulnerable women and strengthening social cohesion across the state.
He added that all the furniture, mattresses and other materials for the programme were produced and purchased from local manufacturers and traders in Birnin Kebbi.
According to him, the decision was deliberately taken to promote indigenous businesses, create economic opportunities for local artisans and stimulate the state’s economy.
