Kebbi Hisbah arraigns married woman, man over illicit affair

The Kebbi State Hisbah Board has arraigned a married woman and a young man before a court over allegations of an illicit affair, following their arrest in Birnin Kebbi.

According to the board, residents of Badariya Ward alerted Hisbah officials at about 12:15 a.m. on May 18, 2026, after spotting a man entering the woman’s home. The residents suspected a relationship between the pair that violated Islamic teachings.

Hisbah officers responded promptly and went to the house, where they greeted the occupants and requested permission to conduct a search. The woman denied that anyone was inside.

During a thorough search, officers found the man hiding inside a Ghana Must Go bag. Under questioning, both the woman and the man admitted to being in a romantic relationship and to engaging in an unlawful affair, the board said.

The Kebbi State Hisbah Board subsequently arraigned the two in court for appropriate legal action in line with the law.

“May Allah continue to safeguard our faith and protect society from all forms of immorality and acts contrary to religious teachings,” the board said in a statement signed by Assistant Secretary Abubakar S.S.
