Kidnappers place N30m each on ABU students abducted on Kaduna-Abuja highway

Gunmen who kidnapped students of the Ahnadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria on Sunday on the Kaduna-Abuja highway have placed a N30m ransom on each of their victims.

A student, Precious Owunna, who first broke the news of the kidnap, disclosed this on her twitter handle on Monday night.

Precious had earlier tweeted that the students were travelling to Nigerian French Language Village (NFLV) in Badagry, Lagos when they were seized.

However, The Abusites, a blog that reports stories about ABU students and its alumni, later reported that the kidnapped victims are the 300 Level students of the Department of French.

It also gave the names of some of the victims to include: Okafor Grace, Kyenpia Bulus, Dickson Afolabi, Jemimah Badmus, Aliyu. S. Adamu, Simnom Praise, Ziya Asoji, Elizabeth John, Victor Agbo and Precious Mutum.

The Abusites quoted Precious as saying that a student was shot while attempting to escape and a woman was left behind because she had a baby.

It would be recalled that the Kaduna-Abuja highway was blocked by kidnappers who abducted many travellers, killing some in the process. Kaduna State Commissioner for Home Affairs and Samuel Aruwan later said nine of the kidnapped persons – five women and four men – were rescued.

The spokesman of the Kaduna State Police Command Mohammed Jalige is not immediately available for comment.
