The Edo State Police Command has arrested a 37-year-old man for allegedly raping a 70-year-old woman in Igueben.
The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem, disclosed this while briefing journalists on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Patrick Daaor, on operational achievements recorded in the last one week.
Ikoedem said the suspect is currently in custody, describing sexual violence as a serious concern in the state.
“The Command has in custody a 37-year-old male suspect in connection with the alleged rape of a 70-year-old woman in Igueben. The case is being thoroughly investigated, and the suspect will be prosecuted in accordance with the law,” she said.
She added that the Commissioner has urged the public to desist from sexual violence and not to conceal such cases, warning that sexual violence in any form is a criminal offence.
The CP also called on residents to continue to provide credible information to the police and to use social media responsibly.
