Police in Kebbi State have arrested 25-year-old Idrisu Musa for allegedly killing his elder brother, Muhammed Haruna, and his wife, Habiba Muhammed, in a cutlass attack at their Asarara Village home.
The couple was attacked while asleep at about 5:15 a.m. on Saturday and died from severe injuries sustained during the assault, according to the Kebbi State Police Command.
Police spokesperson Bashir Usman said officers recovered “substantial and incriminating evidence” linking Musa to the killings. He added that the suspect had repeatedly threatened the couple with a cutlass before the fatal attack.
The Commissioner of Police, Umar Hadejia, has ordered the case transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
The incident had earlier sparked fear in Jega Local Government Area after reports of the couple’s murder emerged. Residents said they had been demanding swift action from security agencies.
“The Command assures the public that justice will be pursued diligently,” Usman said.
