The last has not been heard about the crisis threatening the unity of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State since the defection to the party by Governor Mohammed Bello Matawalle.
While former Governor Abdulaziz Yari and Senator Kabiru Marafa are challenging the naming of Matawalle as the party’s leader in the state by the caretaker chairman of the APC and Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, another former governor Ahmad Sani Yarima has thrown his weight behind Matawalle.

In an interview with the BBC Hausa service, Yarima, a former senator, said since President Muhammadu Buhari is procedurally the APC leader in Nigeria, Matawalle is also the leader of APC in Zamfara State.
Yarima said those who disagree with Matawalle’s leadership of the APC in Zamfara State can leave the part.
Yarima’s remarks followed reports that Yari and Marafa had dismissed Buni’s announcement of Matawalle, who defected to APC from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as the leader of the party.
Yari and Marafa said Matawalle cannot be imposed on them as the leader party.
“One thing we don’t agree with is where Governor Mai Mala announced Matawalle as the leader of the party in Zamfara because that was not part of the talks we held with six sitting governors.
“Our agreement was that Matawalle will be formally received in the party. But we heard some people suggesting the dissolution of the party exco in Zamfara. Nobody has the right to do that,” he said.
