Medical trip: Osinbajo will be in charge in my absence – Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has departed Abuja for a medical checkup in London, United Kingdom, explaining that Vice President Yemi Osinbajo will be in charge of the country in his absence.

Buhari spoke shortly before his departure at the presidential wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Sunday.

Asked if his absence won’t affect governance, the president said, “Well, I cannot claim to be doing the work alone. The government is fully represented. The Vice President is there.

“Constitutionally, when I’m away, he’s in charge. Then, we have the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and then the Chief of Staff, so, there’s no problem.”

It is unclear if the president had transmitted a letter to National Assembly transfering power to his deputy for the two weeks he would be away.
