N80bn fraud: AGF suspended without pay

The Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Mrs. Zainab Ahmed, has suspended the Accountant-General of the Federation, Mr. Ahmed Idris.

The AGF was suspended over the N80 billion fraud allegation against him which led to his arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday.

The minister, in a letter addressed to Idris, said the suspension was indefinite and to enable unhindered investigation into the fraud allegations.

“Following your recent arrest by the Economic and Firnancial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on allegations of diversion of funds and money laundering. I write to convey your suspension from work without pay effective 18 May. 2022.

“This is to alow for proper and unhindered investigaton in to the serious allegations in line with Public Service Rules 030406.

“During this period, you are not expected to attend to your place of work or contact any oficial in your oflice except for any disciplinary hearing that may be advised.

“Also, It is expected that you wil strictly comply with any instructions that will be forwarded to you in your current location or your known recorded address as slipulaled in the extaot rules,” the minister’s letter reads.
