A personnel of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), Sergeant Torsobo Solomon, has been arrested in connection with the bandit attack on the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA).
Sergeant Solomon, who is attached to the Air Force Comprehensive School, Yola, Adamawa State, was arrested on Monday.
“On 08 Nov 21, at about 0600hr, NAF07/ 23922, SGT Torsobo Solomon of 153 BSG (AIR FORCE COMPREHENSIVE SCHOOL YOLA) was arrested on the order of the Base Commander as requested by the NDA Commander for an offence connecting with arms and ammunition with recent bandit attack at NDA Kaduna.
“At about 0815hr, ATR with reg no NAF 930 to arrive flight line to convey him from Yola to NDA KADUNA for further interrogation.”
The NDA released Solomon’s photo and announced that he would be flown to the Army Training Regiment (ATR) in Kaduna.
Dateline Nigeria reports that bandits had on August 24, 2021, attacked the military training institution, killing two officers – Lieutenant Commander Wulah and Flight Lieutenant CM Okoronkwo.
Major Christopher Datong was kidnapped and later rescued by troops.
The non-state armed actors attacked the NDA campus in Afaka, Kaduna State, around 1:30am.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Defence Academy has said that Sgt Torsabo Solomon is not in its custody.
“The Nigerian Defence Academy is a Military Training Institution and not an Investigative Security Agency,” NDA Public Relations Officer Bashir Muhammed Jajira said in a statement.
“The general public is hereby advised to disregard this misinformation and refer to relevant Investigative Security Agencies for clarification.
“The Nigerian Defence Academy wishes to reassure the general public that the perpetrators of the security breach on the Nigerian Defence Academy architecture will sooner rather than later be apprehended.”
