The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has arrested an 80-year-old man, a couple, and a Chadian woman in separate operations across Rivers, Edo, Kogi and Lagos states.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday, July 19, 2026, by the agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi.
According to the statement, NDLEA operatives in Rivers State arrested Chika Ugwoji, 80, on Tuesday, July 14, at Ahoada. The octogenarian was found in possession of 800 grams of skunk, a strain of cannabis sativa.
In Edo State, a couple, Christian Chukwuka, 32, and Nwanneka Christian, 33, were arrested on Monday, July 13, following a raid on their alleged illicit drug warehouse along Sapele Road, Benin City.
The agency said 22 bags of cannabis sativa weighing 219.5kg and compressed blocks of Canadian Loud with a gross weight of 192.67kg were seized during the raid.
Also, a Chadian woman, Hajara Abdullahi, 38, and her Nigerian accomplice, Abdulkarim Jidda, 44, were nabbed in Lagos.
The arrests followed the interception of 50,000 pills of tramadol 225mg in Kogi State on Sunday, July 12. NDLEA said the consignment was traced to the two suspects, who were later arrested in the Apapa area of Lagos.
The agency added that its War Against Drug Abuse, WADA, sensitization activities continued across the country last week. Lectures were delivered to students and staff of Government Day Junior Secondary School, Bakori, Katsina; Colliery Technical School, Ngwo, Enugu; Starlight College, Iganmu Ijora, Lagos; Community Secondary School, Kono, Rivers; Odoro High School, Ikole Ekiti; and Government Junior Secondary School, Gabasawa, Kano, among others.
While commending officers of the MMIA, Lagos, Rivers, Edo and Kogi Commands, NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), said their efforts have contributed significantly to ongoing drug control efforts nationwide. He charged them to remain vigilant at all times.
