The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has arrested members of a syndicate that plants drugs in unsuspecting passengers’ luggage at motor parks.
This is contained in a statement on Sunday signed by NDLEA’s Director, Media & Advocacy, Femi Babafemi.
Babafemi said NDLEA operatives in the FCT, in a joint operation with Anambra Command, uncovered a syndicate that hides illicit drugs in the luggage of unsuspecting travelers.
“On Saturday, June 20, operatives intercepted a Sienna bus from Nnewi at Abaji, FCT, and recovered 467.7grams of methamphetamine concealed in a black nylon bag inside a sack of clothes. The supposed receiver, Mrs. Gloria Peter, was arrested at Utako motor park.
“Investigations led to the arrest of the bus loaders in Nnewi, who said the package was planted on the directive of the driver, Abdurrazak Isah. The driver then named passenger Onyebuchi Victor Okoye as the owner. Okoye was picked up at Utako in a follow-up operation,” the statement said.
Other major seizures and arrests made by the NDLEA, according to the statement, include
1. Lagos: On June 27, a 57-year-old, Ikechukwu Uwakwe, was arrested at Iddo motor park with 209.50kg of ‘Scottish Loud’ cannabis en route to Enugu.
2. Mile 2 Bridge: Two Benin Republic nationals, Hossou Tito Julien, 30, and Mancellim Dossou, 19, and a Nigerian, Jackson ThankGod, were arrested on June 21. A search of their truck from Togo via Benin Republic yielded 558,900 pills of Tramadol 250mg hidden in a fabricated compartment.
3. Lagos-Ibadan Expressway: Lucky Abonga and Osas Azamobo were arrested on June 26 transporting 118kg of skunk from Ebute Ero, Lagos to Onitsha.
4. Amukoko, Lagos: Helen Ese Idiji, 40, and Rashidat Sa’adullah, 53, were arrested on June 26 with 28.8kg of skunk. Helen was said to store drugs with Rashidat for distribution.
