
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says it destroyed 65,000kg of skunk across two farms in Delta State and arrested a businessman in Abuja for allegedly producing drug-laced cakes and cookies for parties.
In Delta State, operatives backed by soldiers raided Ejeonu village in Ukwuani LGA on Sunday, May 10, where they destroyed 27,500kg of skunk on 11 hectares of farmland and recovered 22.9kg.
A 52-year-old suspect, Ifeanyichukwu Peter, was arrested in a follow-up operation at Obiaruku, the NDLEA said in a statement by its spokesperson Femi Babafemi on Sunday.
Two days later, on May 12, a similar raid in Orogun village, Ughelli North LGA, led to the destruction of 37,500kg of skunk on 15 hectares and the recovery of 55.4kg. Thirty-year-old Godwin Vincent Osadera was arrested at the scene.
The statement said in Abuja, NDLEA operatives arrested 29-year-old Ogadi Peter on Monday, May 11, at his Life Camp residence.
The agency said Peter specialized in producing drug-laced cakes and cookies for social gatherings in the capital. Officers recovered 800 grams of skunk and 2.70kg of drug-laced cookies from his home.
Other operations across the country included the recovery of 181kg of skunk from Aliyu Sani in Ogere, Ogun State, on May 13.
In Taraba, 27-year-old Sufiyanu Mohammed Misa was arrested on May 14 along Zaki-Biam road, Wukari LGA, with 105,850 pills of tramadol, diazepam, and exol-5.
In Oyo State, two suspects, Adeleke Olamide Aliyah, 20, and Aloba Abdulazeez, 25, were arrested on May 14 at Challenge II, Saki town, in connection with 99 litres of skuchies.
In Edo State, NDLEA officers destroyed 1,388.4175kg of skunk on two farms in Ago forest, Orhionmwon LGA, on May 15.
In Kano, a 25-litre jerry can of palm oil used to conceal 1.2kg of tramaking 225mg pills was recovered from Kofar Ruwa motor park on May 11. The same day, 35-year-old Aminu Isa was arrested in Sabuwar Sharada with 30.5kg of skunk.
NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended officers of the DOGI, Delta, Kaduna, Oyo, Taraba, Kano, FCT, and Edo commands for the arrests and seizures.
He also praised commands nationwide for balancing drug supply reduction with demand reduction efforts through ongoing War Against Drug Abuse sensitization lectures in schools.
