NDLEA raids Kano drug dens, arrests 73 suspects

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Kano Strategic Command, have arrested 73 suspects and recovered multiple illicit drugs during a one-day intelligence-led raid on notorious drug joints in Kano metropolis.

The operation, carried out on Wednesday, 10 June 2026 under “Operation Sharar Mafaka,” targeted Filin Mahaha drug den, Sani Abacha Youth Centre, and locations in the Sheka area, according to a statement on Thursday by Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics, Public Relations Officer, NDLEA Kano Command.

NDLEA said officers used a “dislodge and occupy” technique, moving into the drug joints, making arrests, recovering exhibits, and maintaining sustained presence to prevent immediate reoccupation.

The tactic was based on precise intelligence on criminal activity and user behaviour patterns at the locations, the agency stated.

Items seized during the coordinated raid include: Cannabis sativa, Diazepam, Pregabalin, Exol-5 and substance locally known as “suck and die”.

NDLEA said the raid is part of “Operation Sharar Mafaka,” the command’s ongoing operation to identify, dislodge, and dismantle notorious drug joints across Kano State. The sustained use of “dislodge-and-occupy” is intended to disrupt activity patterns and deny traffickers safe havens.

“We will continue to dislodge and occupy these drug joints in line with the direction of our Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa, until there is no safe place left for illicit drug activities,” said Commander of NDLEA Kano Strategic Command, CN DY Lawal.

“This operation demonstrates our commitment to safeguarding communities and disrupting the networks that fuel substance abuse and crime,” Lawal added.

The agency urged members of the public to keep providing timely and actionable information to support further crackdown efforts.
